Planet Labs led a broadly green space tape on a 40th-launch and AI-platform day; defense-IT was the only soft spot.
Planet Labs (PL) led, up 8.4% to $17.50, after it logged its 40th launch — 20 new satellites to orbit, including a Google-developed prototype, lifting total spacecraft delivered to 718 — detailed a 5,700 m² Berlin factory to build higher-resolution Pelicans at up to 60 units a year, and joined the Amazon.ia biodiversity AI platform backed by the Bezos Earth Fund. The move sits on the earth-observation chokepoint: the imaging-cadence and refresh-rate rung that distinguishes a data business from a hardware one. Satellogic +5.7% to $5.73 and BlackSky +3.6% to $21.92 rode along on the same rung.
The laggard was CACI, down 1.9% to $615.04 — the optical-terminals and defense-IT name was the notable red mark on an otherwise bid session, with Northrop -0.8% to $478.00 and L3Harris -0.8% also easing. Astroscale's thin US OTC line printed a steep drop its Tokyo listing did not confirm — essentially flat on the day — so the in-space-servicing choke was steady, not broken. The read is modest profit-taking in the defense-prime adjacencies against risk-on small-cap space.
Breadth was wide. Launch and propulsion firmed: SpaceX's tracking line (SPCX) +7.4% to $158.96, Karman +7.1% to $34.14, Rocket Lab +4.9% to $73.92. In-space infrastructure was bid — Intuitive Machines +4.7% to $14.71, MDA +3.2% to $29.89, Redwire +2.9% — and the rad-hard-silicon rung ran with STMicroelectronics +7.0% to $57.26, Texas Instruments +4.4% to $293.80, and Microchip +3.6% to $81.32. SiTime added 4.5% to $709.44 on atomic-clocks/PNT, Telesat +3.4% on optical terminals, and AST SpaceMobile +2.5% to $58.45 on ground segment.
The next hard catalysts come fast. Satellogic's first AI-first constellation satellite launch is targeted for October 31; SDA Tranche 2 Transport Layer launches are beginning; Rocket Lab's Neutron medium-lift maiden flight sits in its Q4 window; and SpaceX's lock-up expiries — first tranche already past, full expiry December 9 — remain the private-giants wildcard for the launch rung.
