The SpaceX crossover proxy led on launch-cadence optimism while Planet Labs slid to eight-month lows into its earnings print.

The basket's leader was SpaceX's crossover proxy (SPCX), up 6.4% to $149.74 — the private-market vehicle that gives public investors exposure to the company that dominates the launch-cadence chokepoint. On a broad risk-on session, with the SpaceX IPO lockup expiry now firmly on the calendar, the name that sits at the center of the sector's access-to-orbit strait was bid hardest. It is a proxy, not the underlying equity, so read the move as sentiment on launch economics rather than a direct SpaceX print.

The laggard carried the real drama. Planet Labs (PL) fell 8.2% to $18.35, to its lowest level in over eight months, in the run-up to its Q2 FY2027 results — and it fell despite announcing a seven-figure, one-year contract with a European defense-and-intelligence customer for its Planet Mosaics product. Planet owns the daily-global-scan chokepoint in earth observation, the archive-and-cadence advantage that is hard to replicate, but a market bracing for the print sold first and the new contract did not offset the caution. BlackSky (BKSY), its high-resolution EO peer, fell with it, −5.2% to $20.63.

Elsewhere the tape leaned to the winners, split by chokepoint. MDA Space (MDA) rose 3.7% to $29.06 on a Strong Buy analyst consensus and its satellite-systems and robotics backlog; 5N Plus (FPLSF) added 3.4% on the space-grade-materials node; and IonQ (IONQ) climbed 3.7% on the quantum-space crossover. The connectivity-and-services tier firmed — Viasat (VSAT) +2.6% to $71.72, Mercury Systems +2.6%, CACI +2.6% to $630 on defense-space services — while the launch primes held steady (Rocket Lab +1.1% to $63.81, Northrop +0.8%, Boeing +0.8%). Satellogic (SATL) −2.1% and Intuitive Machines (LUNR) −1.1% rounded out the softer EO-and-lunar names.

The near calendar is launch- and earnings-heavy. Astroscale's APS-R Space Force refueler is slated to launch to GEO on September 15, a live test of the in-orbit-servicing chokepoint, and Planet's Q2 print is imminent. L3Harris's majority sale of its Aerojet Rocketdyne/RL10 propulsion line to AE Industrial is expected to close around quarter-end, reshaping the propulsion strait. Satellogic's first AI-first satellite launch is targeted for late October. And furthest out, the SpaceX IPO's 180-day lockup fully expires December 9 — the event that begins to put a continuous public price on the private giant today's leader only approximates.
