The optical-terminal chokepoint led as Telesat extended its Lightspeed run 9%, while a private-holdings fund line was the day's only real drag on a green tape.

Telesat led the desk, up 9.3% to $45.70, extending a run built on the optical-terminal chokepoint. Telesat's Lightspeed LEO constellation carries four 10 Gbps optical inter-satellite links per satellite, and prime contractor MDA Space selected Tesat to supply 792 optical terminals — the largest single optical-crosslink order to date. The recent catalyst is scale: a record C$2.3 billion (up to C$2.7 billion with options) Arctic military-satcom award that expands the funded constellation to 225 satellites, the largest deal in the company's history. Thursday added a governance data point with the appointment of Donald Tremblay as CFO; the move itself reads as continued momentum in the name most directly levered to the inter-satellite-link strait.

The laggard was the Fundrise Innovation Fund (VCX), off 3.0% to $41.34 — a closed-end interval fund whose price has dislocated violently from NAV since its March NYSE listing. Its holdings (SpaceX alongside Anthropic, OpenAI, Anduril and others) map the launch and private-giants chokepoints, but the daily move is a fund-mechanics artifact — premium/discount swing against a stale private mark — not a read on any underlying. It is the laggard only because the rest of the board was green.

The tape was broadly bid across the small-cap space complex. Frequency Electronics rose 5.4% to $63.90 on the atomic-clocks-and-PNT choke; Satellogic +3.5% to $5.31 and Spire +3.4% to $14.00 on the earth-observation side; MDA Space +2.6% to $30.36 and Rocket Lab +2.0% to $67.53 across the in-space-infrastructure and launch layers, with AST SpaceMobile +2.6% to $61.44. IonQ's +6.1% to $42.46 spilled over from the quantum bid. The primes lagged the small caps — Karman −2.0% to $47.42, Boeing −1.0% to $209.89, Northrop −0.9% to $545.13.

The launch calendar turns active immediately. SDA's Tranche 2 Transport Layer launches begin September 1 — the proliferated-LEO buildout that the optical-terminal and ground-segment chokepoints feed. Planet Labs reports fiscal Q2 on September 14, and Astroscale's APS-R Space Force refueler is slated to launch to GEO on September 15, an early read on the in-space-servicing strait. L3Harris's Rocketdyne propulsion sale to AE Industrial is expected to close by month-end.
