The space complex ripped with the risk-on tape into a heavy launch-and-imagery earnings week, Redwire leading, with Texas Instruments the lone chip-name drag.
Redwire led the vertical at +11.8% to $9.64 as the broad melt-up (Nasdaq +2.3%, S&P 500 +1.6%) lifted the small-cap space-and-defense complex off its lows. There was no single-name catalyst; RDW is the space-infrastructure bet — the components, solar arrays, and on-orbit hardware chokepoint that keeps satellites and stations operating — and it moved as a high-beta proxy for a sector-wide re-risking, with its backdrop of national-security contract wins (including a seat on the $1.8 billion Andromeda GPS-modernization vehicle) supporting the bid. The move sets up a run of prints that will test whether the order books justify it.
The laggard was the chip layer: Texas Instruments fell −2.4% to $269.04, the only material decliner in the basket and part of a broader semiconductor lag on a day the rest of the tape rallied. TI is the space vertical's analog and space-grade silicon chokepoint — the radiation-tolerant parts inside nearly every bus and payload — so its pullback is a sector-rotation artifact rather than a demand signal; the buildout that consumes those parts is unchanged.
Everything else in the complex was green, led by the launch and imagery names. Satellogic rose +10.5% to $3.96, Mercury Systems +8.9% to $105.79, Rocket Lab +8.4% to $70.43 into its own results, and AST SpaceMobile +7.7% to $63.52 on the direct-to-cell chokepoint; Firefly Aerospace added +7.7% to $21.89, Spire +7.2% to $12.28, Intuitive Machines +6.2% to $13.10, Planet Labs +5.1% to $21.53, and BlackSky +3.7% to $23.90. Boeing jumped +8.0% to $233.49 — a commercial-aviation catalyst rather than a space one, after the FAA approved the 737 MAX 7 and BNP Paribas upgraded the shares to Outperform with a $300 target — while CACI gained +3.0% to $512.66 on the mission-systems side.
The calendar makes this an earnings week, not a sentiment one. 5N Plus and Firefly Aerospace both report Q2 on August 4, Firefly the read on whether launch cadence is converting to revenue. BlackSky and Rocket Lab both report August 6 — BlackSky the commercial-imagery demand tell, and Rocket Lab its first full quarter owning the Mynaric optical-terminal supply, a direct read on the laser-crosslink chokepoint that the entire proliferated-constellation architecture depends on. These prints will show whether Monday's move has fundamentals under it.
