The space trade turned risk-on again — Frequency Electronics led with a 20% momentum move and AST SpaceMobile jumped 10% on a $984M raise and a new factory — while the defense primes and Astroscale's Tokyo line were the sector's laggards.

Frequency Electronics (FEIM) led the basket, up 19.7% to $79.85, extending momentum rather than reacting to a fresh Tuesday headline. The company hosted its fiscal-2026 results call on July 15, reported two new contracts totaling roughly $45 million, and pushed its backlog above $100 million for the first time against a long-term revenue target of at least $150 million. FEIM sits on the precision-timing and frequency-control chokepoint — the atomic clocks and oscillators that PNT, satellite and defense systems are built around — and the stock is up more than 200% over the past year. Tuesday's move was thin-float momentum riding the sector's broader risk-on turn, not a new award.

The session's anchor story was AST SpaceMobile (ASTS), up 10.3% to $63.34 on a $984 million convertible-note raise and approval for a 400,000-square-foot satellite factory in Midland that supports vertical integration of its direct-to-cell constellation. The rest of the high-beta space complex rebounded from recent weakness: Redwire (RDW) +9.5% to $9.42, Satellogic (SATL) +9.2% to $3.90, and BlackSky (BKSY) +8.0% to $23.61 across the manufacturing and Earth-observation links, with Intuitive Machines (LUNR) +5.9% to $14.64. The launch tier firmed too — Rocket Lab (RKLB) +5.1% to $69.12 and SpaceX (SPCX) +3.1% to $123.54, the latter after Macquarie reaffirmed a $250 target.

The weakness sat at the two ends of the map. Astroscale (ASRHF), the orbital-servicing name, fell 5.6% to $5.90 in its latest Tokyo session — the basket's laggard — still carrying the overhang from May's ¥30.6 billion convertible-and-equity raise, with the company not expected to reach profitability until the end of the decade. At the other end, the legacy defense primes gave ground as capital rotated toward the pure-play space names: Boeing (BA) -2.2% to $204.80 and Northrop Grumman (NOC) -2.2% to $512.29, both without company news. The split — new-space bid, old-space and pre-revenue names offered — was the session's cleanest signal.

Earnings define the week ahead. L3Harris (LHX), STMicroelectronics (STM) and Teledyne (TDY) report July 23, and Iridium (IRDM) on July 24. The pure-plays follow in early August: 5N Plus (FPLSF) and Firefly Aerospace (FLY) on August 4, then BlackSky (BKSY) and Rocket Lab (RKLB) on August 6 — the latter its first full quarter owning Mynaric and CONDOR. CACI (CACI) closes its fiscal year on August 7.
