AST SpaceMobile fell 17% on a $1B convertible raise and led a broad rout of the public space complex — only the private-exposure fund stayed green.

That the leader was a fund is the tell. Destiny Tech100 (DXYZ), the closed-end vehicle whose book is largely private names like SpaceX, rose 2.3% to $27.15 — and it was the only green mark in the vertical. Every public, tradeable space name fell, so the "leader" here is really a statement that the day's damage was concentrated in the listed complex while the private-exposure proxy, marked to different clocks, drifted up.

The laggard, and the session's headline, was AST SpaceMobile (ASTS), down 17.0% to $55.01 after pricing a $1B private offering of 1.625% convertible senior notes due 2034 (net proceeds ~$983.6M) to fund network build-out and launch access. The notes convert near $80 — a ~20% premium — but the market read dilution and questioned the timing, extending a slide that has cut the stock roughly 60% since it traded above $130 in late May, with Starlink's direct-to-cell competition hanging over the direct-to-device thesis.

The read-through routed the rest of the launch-and-manufacturing chokepoint. Rocket Lab (RKLB) fell 11.6% to $67.35, Planet Labs (PL) 11.3% to $22.09 and BlackSky (BKSY) 11.7% to $21.46, with Spire (SPIR) −10.9% to $12.15, Satellogic (SATL) −9.8% to $3.57, Redwire (RDW) −9.7% to $8.45 and Intuitive Machines (LUNR) −9.5% to $13.44. This is the highest-beta corner of the whole platform, and when risk came off the AI-and-growth tape, the small-cap satellite-and-launch names de-risked hardest — ASTS's raise the catalyst, the broad speculative unwind the amplifier.

The next reads cluster fast. Texas Instruments reports July 21; L3Harris, STMicro and Teledyne on July 23; Iridium July 24; then a dense first week of August — Firefly on the 4th, Rocket Lab, BlackSky and Redwire on the 6th, AST SpaceMobile's own Q2 on the 10th. Beyond earnings, the launch-cadence chokepoint gets its real test in the Q4 window for Rocket Lab's Neutron maiden flight, with the SpaceX (SPCX) lock-up tranches beginning August 21 as the supply-of-shares overhang the whole basket is watching.
