An index-flow bid lifted Karman 6.4% while the high-beta EO and comms smallcaps repriced — Satellogic the softest at -8.1%, and SpaceX slipped below its IPO price for the first time.

Karman Holdings (KRMN) led, up 6.4% to $48.78 at the propulsion-and-interstage chokepoint — the missile-defense, hypersonics and space-propulsion component supplier — on an index event rather than a contract print. S&P Dow Jones set Karman to join the S&P SmallCap 600 at the open on July 17, replacing BrightSpring Health, and the pending passive-flow inclusion drew buyers into a name already carrying a roughly $3B pipeline. This was a mechanical, flow-driven bid; the fundamentals were already known.

The laggard was Satellogic (SATL), off 8.1% to $3.96 — a sub-$4 earth-observation smallcap giving back in the session's risk-off rotation with no company news, the highest-beta corner of the EO chokepoint repricing first. It led a cohort of speculative comms and imaging names lower: Spire (SPIR) −6.0% to $13.63, Comtech (CMTL) −5.9%, BlackSky (BKSY) −5.3% to $24.30, and Redwire (RDW) −3.9%. When risk turns, the money leaves the smallest, most-diluted names in the constellation-and-downlink layer first.

The selling was concentrated at the bottom of the market cap; the launch and defense-space anchors held better. Rocket Lab (RKLB) −3.3% to $76.20 and AST SpaceMobile (ASTS) −3.6% eased with the group, while Intuitive Machines (LUNR) −0.4% was near flat. The milestone of the session was at the launch chokepoint: SpaceX (SPCX) dipped 0.6% to $135.27 and traded below its IPO price for the first time — a sentiment marker for the private-launch complex more than a move in itself. Mercury Systems (MRCY) +2.6% and Destiny Tech100 (DXYZ) +2.2% were the scarce green.

Earnings thicken next week. Texas Instruments reports July 21; L3Harris, STMicroelectronics and Teledyne on July 23; Iridium on July 24, with its PNT ASIC commercial availability slated for late July at the resilient-timing chokepoint. Rocket Lab's Q2 — its first full quarter owning Mynaric and CONDOR — lands August 6. Until then, the vertical stays a barbell: index and defense flows at the top, high-beta EO and comms repricing on the risk tape at the bottom.
