The high-beta space complex sold off hard on July 7 — launch, imagery and in-space names down 6-10% — while only SES's European line (+2.9%) and Northrop stayed green.

The space basket's only real gainer on July 7 was SES (SGBAF) +2.9% to $9.28 on its European line, the ground-segment chokepoint: post-Intelsat, roughly 120 GEO/MEO satellites and a global C/Ku/Ka/X/UHF ground network. The lone liquid US green was defense prime Northrop Grumman (NOC) +0.2%. Together they describe the day — a flight to the profitable, government-funded end of the vertical while the growth-stage names were sold, on a session that took the Nasdaq down 1.16% and the semiconductor ETF off more than 3%.

The laggard was the private-giants and launch chokepoint. The Fundrise Innovation Fund (VCX) fell 15.8% to $65.02 — a closed-end wrapper whose holdings include SpaceX alongside OpenAI, Anthropic and Databricks. As the private-tech complex re-rated, the fund's premium to its ~$19 NAV compressed violently; and this time the underlying moved too, with SpaceX's own listed line (SPCX) down 6.8% to $149.47. The fund's larger drop is premium compression stacked on that underlying move — the clearest read available on how the public tape is now pricing private space and AI.

The high-beta names were uniformly hit, by chokepoint. Launch and in-space infrastructure — Rocket Lab (RKLB) −10.4%, Redwire (RDW) −10.1%. Direct-to-device — AST SpaceMobile (ASTS) −8.0%. Earth-observation and imagery — Planet (PL) −7.1%, BlackSky (BKSY) −6.3%, Spire (SPIR) −4.6%. Lunar — Intuitive Machines (LUNR) −5.5%. This was a clean risk-off across the launch, optical-terminal and imagery chokepoints — beta, not news. Nothing company-specific drove the tape; the growth-stage space complex simply carries the market's cost-of-capital sensitivity in concentrated form.

Earnings and one marquee print define the window. Frequency Electronics reports fiscal Q4 tomorrow (July 9); L3Harris, Teledyne and STMicro report July 23, Iridium July 24, then Rocket Lab and BlackSky on August 6 and AST SpaceMobile August 10. The set-piece is SpaceX's first post-IPO quarterly print, estimated around August 20, with the SPCX lock-up's first tranche releasing near August 21 — the supply-and-disclosure event that will reprice the launch chokepoint on the public tape.
