Redwire leads on a stack of defense and space contract wins while Comtech extends its post-earnings collapse and a freshly listed SpaceX takes its first hit.
Redwire (RDW) rose 6.4% to $14.36 (after touching roughly $14.91 intraday) on a cluster of contract news: a high-eight-figure NATO Penguin Mk3 UAS award, a $15M follow-on Stalker UAS order from the US Army that lifts recent Stalker bookings to $24.8M, the first commercial ISS greenhouse mission, and its role as prime on DARPA's Otter VLEO spacecraft program. Redwire spans the space-infrastructure and tactical-UAS chokepoints; recurring defense demand against a ~$498M contracted backlog is the structural read behind the move.
Comtech Telecommunications (CMTL) fell another 14.4% to $2.56, extending a roughly 40% post-earnings collapse after a fiscal-Q3 revenue miss (~$106M versus ~$116M expected). The company has agreed to sell its satellite-and-space segment to Gilat (GILT, roughly flat at $13.58) for $157.5M to cut debt — a transaction that hands a SATCOM chokepoint asset to a stronger balance sheet and underscores Comtech's own distress. SpaceX (SPCX) was the next-worst, down 9.3% to $191.82 — its first decline since the June 12 IPO, as options trading opened on June 16 and finally gave bears a practical way to short a stock with only a ~4–5% public float.
Among the gainers, Telesat (TSAT +6.0%, $47.48) and Spire Global (SPIR +5.8%, $18.15) led on the constellation and space-data side, and AST SpaceMobile (ASTS +3.9%, $85.43) firmed on the session it launched BlueBird 8/9/10 on a Falcon 9 — a milestone for its direct-to-cell constellation. Iridium (IRDM +3.7%, $45.05) rose on its PNT and resilient-comms positioning.
The launch cadence is the near-term driver after this week's BlueBird deployment, and Iridium's PNT ASIC reaches commercial availability around mid-2026. The earnings cluster lands in early-to-mid August: Rocket Lab (August 6, its first full quarter owning Mynaric/CONDOR optical terminals), Redwire (August 12), Viasat (August 12), and Gilat (August 13, which will begin folding in the Comtech space assets).
